December 2025 – Community Engagement and Local Information Sharing in Leamington in Ashfield
Some of the Tackling Loneliness Collaborative as part of the Leamington Community Partnership have been out knocking on doors to speak directly to residents in Leamington in Ashfield. It was a really helpful way to meet local people, some of whom had recently moved to the area and only knew their direct neighbours and weren’t aware of what was going on nearby.
The people who answered the door were very friendly and we had some lovely conversations. We were able to share ‘Lets go Leamington’ information including lots going on at Willets Court community centre – one resident was delighted to find that a bingo session is only 10 minutes’ walk away from her house and another new mum appreciated knowing about local baby and toddler groups as she really didn’t know any of the nearby mums. Another resident had tried to talk to people at local events like the firework display but didn’t speak English as a first language so found it really quite difficult, so we suggested maybe the Tenants and Residents meeting would be a friendly way to meet other people.
We left information at the local hairdressers and on talking with someone walking her dog, she said she’d been thinking about volunteering somewhere but wasn’t sure how to go about it. We were able to have a chat share group details and the contact details for Ashfield Voluntary Action. https://www.ashfieldvoluntaryaction.org.uk
Around 20 people took part from the Leamington Community Partnership during this session. It was a fine example of people coming together to forge relationships and share information that could really help someone.
